Georgia State Rep. Soo Hong Attends Hyundai Metaplant Grand Opening

“Hyundai’s investment marks a historic milestone for Georgia’s future”

Soo Hong, the only Korean-American female legislator in the Georgia State Assembly, attended the grand opening of Hyundai Motor Group’s Metaplant America (HMGMA) on March 26 as an official guest. She was the only Korean-American elected official present at the event.

Accompanied by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, Rep. Hong toured the newly completed state-of-the-art electric vehicle production facility located in Ellabell, Georgia. Guided by Hyundai officials, she was given a firsthand look at the latest smart manufacturing technologies now operating in the largest economic development project in Georgia’s history.

“It was truly an honor to attend the opening ceremony of Hyundai Metaplant, the largest economic development initiative in our state’s history,” said Rep. Hong. “This milestone is more than just a leap in automotive innovation—it brings tremendous economic opportunities to Georgia.”

In a statement released after the event, Rep. Hong said, “As a Korean-American legislator, I am incredibly proud of the economic partnership between Hyundai and the State of Georgia, as well as Hyundai’s strong investment in our region. This advanced facility will create thousands of jobs and provide a significant boost to our local economy.”

She also emphasized, “Hyundai’s investment is not only symbolic for the Korean-American community but also brings hope and opportunity to residents across Georgia. As a Korean-American public servant, I will continue to serve as a bridge between Georgia and Korean companies.”

The grand opening ceremony celebrated the completion of Hyundai’s cutting-edge electric vehicle plant in Ellabell, built with an investment exceeding $5.5 billion. The facility is expected to produce up to 300,000 electric vehicles annually. The event was attended by high-level officials from the Georgia state and federal governments, as well as Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung and other top executives.

Rep. Soo Hong has been a strong advocate for Korean-American communities in Georgia, focusing on strengthening partnerships between state and local governments, advancing economic and educational development, and promoting immigrant rights.
